Screen Printing

Screen printing is one of the first printing methods! It was invented in China approximately 2000 years ago, using human hair stretched on a wooden frame. Later on the Japanese adopted this printing method using woven silk from which this method took its name “Silk Screen Printing”.

In 1907 Samuel Simon in Manchester created the first production printing unit and a few years later, after the First World War, John Pilsworth in San Francisco developed printing multiple colors transforming Screen Printing into a popular printing method.

Nowadays silk was replaced by synthetic gauze. The basic technique remains the same, but now, it has grown so much that it is unrecognizable. The evolution and study continues even nowadays, which is why very few follow this profession as it requires to constantly enrich ones knowledge, increase his experience and continuously invest in complex equipment.

Undoubtedly the most versatile printing method which can be applied on sticker, paper, pvc, plexiglas, fabric, glass, aluminum, wood, etc. It is worth noting that photovoltaics and touch screens are created by applying special inks with the method of Screen Printing!

The screen printing process is with no doubt time consuming because of the printing preparation that is required. The first step is to create a film with the theme that we want to print. Then onto a frame with stretched gauze we spread a coat of a special photosensitive paste and after we photogragh the film onto this special frame, then the gauze is only left with the theme that we want to print. Pressing with a spatula color onto this frame allows the color to pass onto the material we placed underneath.
